Prepare the planting area by loosening the soil to a depth of 12 inches and clearing any unwanted debris or rocks. Enhance the soil's quality and drainage by adding organic matter like compost or aged manure. Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH of 6.0 to 7.0. Plant Pixwell gooseberry bushes in the early spring or late fall when the soil is moist but not saturated. Dig a hole slightly larger than the plant's root ball and ensure the crown (where the roots meet the stem) is at or slightly above the soil level. Gently pat the soil around the roots to secure the plant. Space the bushes 3 to 4 feet apart for optimal airflow and growth.
